What We Do

Our Process For Surface Repair

Surface repair is a crucial step in the preparation process before painting or finishing walls and ceilings. It involves fixing any imperfections, damages, or inconsistencies on surfaces to ensure a smooth and even finish. Here’s a breakdown of our surface repair services before painting.

After the repair is done, the area is usually sanded to ensure it’s smooth and flush with the surrounding surface. Proper surface repair is essential for achieving a professional-looking finish, whether you’re painting, applying wallpaper, or leaving the drywall or plaster exposed.

Painting

Dents and Scratches: Before painting, small dents, scratches, or imperfections on the surface are filled using spackling paste or a suitable filler. Once dried, the area is sanded smooth.

Peeling Paint: Areas with peeling or flaking paint are scraped off, sanded, and then primed to ensure the new paint adheres properly.

Stains: Stains are treated with a stain-blocking primer to prevent them from bleeding through the new paint.

Drywall

Holes and Cracks: Small holes can be patched using drywall compound or spackling. For larger holes, a piece of drywall is cut to fit the hole, secured in place, and then the seams are taped and mudded.

Seam Repair: If the tape covering drywall seams starts to peel or bubble, it’s removed, and the seam is retaped and mudded.

Nail Pops: These are caused when nails or screws pop out slightly from the drywall. The protruding nail or screw is driven back in or replaced, and the area is patched.

Plaster

Cracks: Hairline cracks in plaster can be filled with plaster filler or a patching compound. Larger cracks might require the application of mesh tape before patching to ensure stability.

Holes: Small holes in plaster can be filled with plaster patching compound. For larger holes, a backing material might be needed before applying the plaster patch.

Loose Plaster: Areas of plaster that have separated from the lath (the underlying wood structure) need to be reattached or replaced. This can be done using plaster washers and screws, followed by a skim coat of plaster.
